The director general of the European Union Francoise Le Bail, and Viviane Reding are conducting expensive discussions with various sectors of the United States administration including the White House, Homeland Security, and the Department of Justice. “The agreement hopefully will represent a reference for personal information protection that can be utilized whenever personal information has to be sent across the globe for police and judicial assistance in criminal investigations.” As Viviane Reding addressed “a new beginning of enmity and trust between Europe and the United States”, she also stated is not always a simple process to come to an agreement involving standards of data protection, but a very proactive stance will be taken.
Viviane's stance occurred shortly after the European Parliament gave its approval of the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program, which gives the United States anti-terrorism investigators access and permission to examine bank information from European Union countries.
